My friend Brian Rella has a new book out – Queen of the Fallen. You can grab a copy by clicking here. You should check it out. If you enjoy fantasy, you’ll love it. I enjoy a book more when I know the author, so I asked Brian some questions. Enjoy!
I enjoy a book more when I know the author, so I asked Brian some questions about himself. Enjoy getting to know him and please go and check out his new book.
Q: Tell us four things about you.
Writing is my third career. I was first a chef and then an IT project manager before I started writing.
I left college my sophomore year and traveled the country for two years. I ended up living in New Orleans for just over a year and then headed to Sitka, Alaska for the summer before coming back to New York in 1997.
My favorite band is the Dave Matthews Band. I’ve seen over hundred Dave shows around the country.
My favorite movie is Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and I can pretty much recite it word for word.
Q: Tell us three things you love about writing.
World-building and character sketching.
The feeling I get when I hit a groove in a writing session and I know each word I put on the page is good.
The feeling of finishing the final draft of a book.
Q: What scene in the Queen of the Fallen are you most proud of?
This is a hard one. It’s like asking which of your children do you like best. Okay maybe not that dramatic, but you get the idea. I think my best writing is in the Prologue and Chapter 1. I worked extremely hard on those eighteen hundred words to make sure they were engrossing and would make a reader want to keep turning pages. I’m very proud of those two chapters.
Q: Describe your writing with three words.
Q: You are transformed by a maniacal magician into a car. What kind of car are you and why?
I’m not really a car guy, but I have a thing for old Mustangs. Maybe a 1965-67 Ford Mustang convertible in red. I like classic cars and I dreamed of buying and restoring an old Mustang when I was younger. Of course, all I could afford was my Dad’s Nissan Sentra that had over 100,000 miles on it.
Q: You are sentenced by the writing police to read one book ten times in a row. What book do you read?
Stephen King, The Stand, and I would enjoy every page.
Q: A reader was so engaged with Queen of the Fallen he/she read through the whole book in one sitting. What do you hope they are feeling when they close the book?
I hope they feel like they read a quality, entertaining horror fantasy and the story sticks with them for a while. I also hope they look forward to reading the next book.
